3/31/2017 – Policy Update: TSA Screening Policy

NOTICE:

Please see the information below for an update regarding the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) screening policy for Federal Flight Deck Officers (FFDOs) accessing the sterile area through Known Crewmember (KCM) access point locations.  The TSA will amend the applicable security program (FFDO SOP).  Please review and inform your crew members as soon as possible the policy update below.
Policy Update:
  • In Accordance with recent changes to the FFDO SOP and the TSA Special Screening Program (SSP) for KCM, authorized FFDOs will now be able to utilize the KCM access points to enter into the airport sterile areas.  FFDOs with authorization for carriage of a weapon into an airport sterile area will be allowed to utilize Known Crewmember (KCM) access points.  FFDOs will be required to provide an approved airline ID along with their FFDO credential to the Transportation Security Officer (TSO) staffing the KCM access point.   Once APPROVED by the KCM access system, the FFDO will be allowed to enter into the airport sterile area.  If DENIED by the KCM access system, The FFDO will be directed to the nearest LEO access point.
Notice to Crewmembers/FFDOs:
Effective April 03, 2017, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has implemented new changes to the Known Crewmember (KCM) program for Federal Flight Deck Officers (FFDOs) entering into the airport sterile areas through Known Crewmember (KCM) access points.  The TSA policy change is as follows:
  • FFDOs with authorization for carriage of a weapon into an airport sterile area will be allowed to utilize Known Crewmember (KCM) access points.  FFDOs will be required to provide an approved airline ID along with their FFDO credential to the Transportation Security Officer (TSO) staffing the KCM access point.   Once APPROVED by the KCM access system, the FFDO will be allowed to enter into the airport sterile area.  If DENIED by the KCM access system, The FFDO will be directed to the nearest LEO access point.
  • FFDOs should review the details of the policy change on the FFDO dashboard and within the most recent FFDO SOP.
